Endurance athletes are realising the scientific benefits of consuming dietary nitrates, which increases natural nitric oxide (NO) production by the body.[1,2]
Nitrates are obtainable in the diet via the consumption of certain vegetables such as beetroot, spinach, green leafy vegetables and turnips (although this can depend in various growing conditions such as fertilisers used, location, soil conditions, light, water and carbon dioxide concentrations).
OxyStorm® red spinach leaf extract features:

Nitric oxide works in the body by relaxing and widening blood vessels, therefore involved in blood flow, and delivery of nutrients and oxygen, to organs and tissues.
Nitrates also have a greater affinity for areas of the body that may be poorly oxygenated due to the nitrites (NO2-) converting into nitric oxide in de-oxygenated blood. This means the active metabolite of nitrates concentrates where it is most needed, thus involved in energy production in the mitochondria of the muscle cells during intense physical performance.
After ingestion, nitrate is rapidly absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract and the bioavailability is 100%. Circulating nitrate is actively extracted by the salivary glands and recreated in saliva. In the mouth, nitrate is partly converted to nitrite by nitrate-reducing commensal bacteria. Swallowed nitrate can then enter the systemic circulation thereby creating enterosalivary circulation of these anions.
Nitrate can be further reduced in blood and tissues to form bioactive NO.[2-4]
2-3 hours prior to exercise, take 1 gel (30mL).
3 days before an event, for loading, take 1 gel (30mL).
